MESH MASHUP! Alt. Title: To No one's Surprise I Struggled!
I don't think it should come as a surprise to anyone that I struggled with this project. I spent a fair chunk of the class time trying to figure out how to use Rhinoceros, and the last few minutes actually getting work for this project done. But hey, bright side, at least this time I remembered to write out my blog entry in time!
I started off by playing around with some of the assets that were available to us on the home page:
King of Nothing
Skull:
Crown:
Coins:
So I started off by just figuring out smaller things like how to align the objects with one another, how to colour the background, how to duplicate objects, etc.
It took a lot longer than I care to admit to figure out some of those details-
The next thing I decided to focus on was to get an actual concept down now that I was feeling comfortable with some of the basics:
Eldritch Halloween
Cauldron:
Tentacles:
Candy:
I also learned that Thingiverse (Where all of these assets are ripped from) works better with keywords to find specific types of assets- so the more specific my search was the better time I had overall.
This emboldened me to get a little more weird/abstract with my concepts:
Fish in a Barrel
Barrel:
Fish:
Pencil:
And a little more whimsical:
Fishing for Stars
Boat:
Fisher:
Star:
Dragon's Hoard
Dragon:
Books:
Also, NGL, I hated this piece because for some reason I couldn't find a good book asset to use, and aligning the pages and covers on each of these got so tedious that I quit. It's a lot less of a "hoard" and more of a "meager collection".
Tree Frog
Tree:
[Frog]
For this one in particular, I wasn't super excited about the concept because it wasn't until I tried to show it to my sister that she pointed out that this exact thought process is how Pokemon are made and now I can't unsee it.
Torterra from Pokemon for reference
It is also at about this point that I started to get self-conscious about my builds because y'know- I'm always chronically overthinking- and it was not particularly helped by this next piece because it's literally just me giving life to a stupid inside joke between some friends and me:
Propeller:
Dog:
Rod:
Cloud:
But I did decide that I really liked the cloud asset from this build (they look like popcorn bits, that's so cute c'mon) so I decided that I needed to use it for a future idea.
At this point, I started to run out of steam on what I should create next (look at the above image for evidence of that) so I took a break for a few days to gather a clear head.
Then I went back to the tried and true method of using wordplay to create an interesting image and being an avid fan of CODENAME: Kid's Next Door I was inspired by the Hive Mind characters and this came to fruition.
Hive Mind
Hive:
Brain:
Bee:
I also figured out that there are transparency settings (in an art-based program? Who wudda thunk?!) and decided that the only next logical step to take with this knowledge was to do something based on glass and/or smoke- or in this case- both.
Bottle Your Feelings
Bottle(+Cork):
Heart:
Smoke:
Then last but not least, I needed to use those clouds again. I love those clouds.
No idea why, my brain just itched to use them again. However, this meant that I needed to throw another thing into the sky. I didn't want to use something likely but my imagination was also slowly failing me so I used another common idiom:
When Pigs Fly
Wings:
Pigs:
And honestly, this might be my magnum opus for this set. I honestly believe that this is where I peaked for this project.
I kind of wished that I had more time to explore ideas and be able to replace some of the former pieces, getting rid of the really basic ones that I started out with to explore the program would have done wonders for my self-esteem using this program but alas. Here we are at the end.
Anyways, on to the next project!
